Certification Requirements

Certification is available for MDs and DOs and healthcare organizations.  For certification to truly make an impact in the field of healthcare, it is important that it be awarded on the basis of the physician or organization meeting the following requirements:

Daily Requirements

• Living, practicing and promoting the Six Principles of Civility:
  1. Respect
  2. Empathy
  3. Flexibility
  4. Interest (and knowledge) in other cultures
  5. Tolerance
  6. Technical Skills (medical and interpersonal)

• 90% compliance with use of the handoff tool (on-line) to allow providers the ability to provide members and other physicians access to critical information regarding their patients when cross-covering

Annual Requirements

• Use of the eTrax patient experience tracking tool and completion of a minimum of 120 surveys per provider annually
• Review of Healing Words (apology and disclosure) book, lecture video, or e-learning course and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80%
• Review and completion of In A Blink: The 3As: Awareness, Assessment and Adapting to patient communication needs e-learning course and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80% (All participants must complete in year one of membership, when available.)
• Review and completion of Cultural Sensitivity e-learning course and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80% (All participants must complete in year one of membership.)
• Physician Leadership in Healthcare e-learning course and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80% (All participants must complete in year one of membership, when available.)

Every Other Year Requirements

• Use of the employee satisfaction survey tool in at least 50% of all employees
• Claims Avoidance Procedure (disclosure/transparence process) manual review and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80% (All participants must complete in year one of membership.) Probably should make optional
• View the Seven Common Leadership Missteps video and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80%

Every Third Year Requirements

• Provider Effectiveness Assessment to identify communication strengths and opportunities for improvement (All participants must complete in year one of membership.)

Application for Certification

• Certification is renewed annually by completing the necessary requirements
• You may apply for Certification six months after initiating your membership with Civility Mutual
• Members must have initiated the Daily and Annual requirements and:

• Attest to use of the Handoff tool
• Completed 60 eTrax surveys
• Completed the Healing Words (apology and disclosure) book, lecture video or e-learning course and completed the post-test with a minimum score of 80%
• Review and completion of Cultural Sensitivity e-learning course and completion of the post-test with a minimum score of 80% (All participants must complete in year one of membership.)
