Civility Mutual strives to improve the quality of healthcare by promoting better communication between providers and patients. 

Civility Mutual is a Membership Organization that enhances the ability of individuals and organizations to deliver patient centered health care through improved communication. Civility Mutual Members have access to the tools they need to improve patient safety, health outcomes, and satisfaction through effective, respectful communication. communication.

Physician members have the opportunity to earn 13.5 CMEs upon completion of the program.

Founded by a practicing surgeon, Civility Mutual supports health care providers and patients to reduce misunderstandings, ensure accurate, high-quality treatment, and improve patient safety.  It’s about earning and ensuring respect and trust on all sides of the health care spectrum, leading to increased patient satisfaction and better health care outcomes.

Civility Mutual provides on-line tools, resources and education for providers and patients based upon the Six Principles of Civility:

  1. Respect
  2. Empathy
  3. Flexibility
  4. Interest in, and knowledge of, other cultures
  5. Tolerance
  6. Technical Skills (medical and interpersonal)

We also provide patients with resources to understand more about healthcare communication and identify providers who are Members or Certified Patient Centered Providers of Healthcare. Civility Mutual enables patients to communicate more effectively with their providers even if their provider does not adhere to effective communication principles.
